Fetion to Open to All, With Limited Functionality

The Beijing News, 12/11/09

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) will launch a new version of its Fetion instant-messaging service at the end of this month, which will allow non-China Mobile users to register for accounts using any email address. However, non-China Mobile users will be limited to chats via Fetion's PC client, and will only be able to communicate with other PC client users; the service is not yet available for communication to or from mobile devices for non-China Mobile subscribers. Additionally, because the operator of Fetion is unable to monitor the safety of information sent by non-China Mobile users, these users will be limited to sending 10 messages per month.

Previously, only users with a China Mobile phone number could register for Fetion accounts.
