China Telecom: IPv6 to See Commercial Launch in 2012

China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) has issued a complete schedule for IPv6 deployment, with commercial trials currently ongoing and a full commercial launch scheduled for 2012. China Telecom will begin a gradual retreat from its IPv4 network and services starting in 2015.

China Telecom has also announced six major goals for the transition to IPv6: build a self-supporting IPv6 business; upgrade enterprise and residential gateways to support IPv6 access for government, enterprise and residential customers; accelerate the shift to mobile Internet; provide IP/VPN services to government and corporate users; offer premium services on both IPv4 and IPv6 while encouraging customers to migrate to IPv6; and develop M2M applications for IPv6.
