Baidu YouA Launches Lottery Sales Service

China Computer World, 12/23/09

Chinese Internet firm Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) e-commerce site, YouA, has launched lottery ticket sales, and is promoting the service with a free ticket offer. According to YouA's introduction, the service acts as an agent to purchase tickets via telephone, and the website itself does not directly participate in the lottery ticket sales. After customers enter their desired numbers into the purchase form on the website, the website then telephones an authorized lottery sales organization to purchase the tickets for the user. After each lottery drawing, the lottery authorities allow YouA to deposit any winnings of RMB 10,000 or less directly into the winner's account. For winnings that exceed RMB 10,000 pre-tax, the individual winner must redeem the ticket, or authorize the YouA platform to redeem the ticket on the winner's behalf.
