Netease Submits WoW Self-Criticism to Government

Sohu IT, 12/31/09

The Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Press and Publication told Sohu IT today that it has received a self-criticism from Netease (Nasdaq: NTES).

When asked about what penalties might be levied against Netease, the Shanghai Bureau said that since World of Warcraft is categorized as an overseas game, that decision rests with China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP).

An industry source claims that Netease was in contact with GAPP when it submitted its self-criticism, and believes that as a result, World of Warcraft will not be shut down, and Netease may simply be required to pay a fine.
