China Telecom: Fixed-Line Still Top Priority

Netease Tech, 2/01/10

At an internal meeting, China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) chairman Wang Xiaochu said that maintaining the company's existing fixed-line subscriber base is a fundamental precondition for the company's overall development. Currently, the company's fixed network represents 80% of the company's assets, which China Telecom must continue to develop simultaneously along with its mobile business. To this end, in 2010 China Telecom plans to accelerate broadband deployment, and will greatly increase broadband speeds for home subscribers, aiming to bring 4 Mbps broadband to urban areas.
