Spreadtrum Records Q4 2009 Net Profit of USD 1.4 Mln

Chinese wireless baseband chipset provider Spreadtrum Communications (Nasdaq: SPRD) has announced its unaudited financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2009, with total revenues for Q4 2009 reaching USD 42.3 mln, up 312.9% YoY and 10.1% QoQ, exceeding the company's previous guidance of USD 37-40 mln. Revenue for FY 2009 reached USD 105.1 mln, down 4.4% YoY.
Net income for the quarter came to USD 1.4 mln, compared with net loss of USD 52.8 mln in Q4 2008 and a net income of USD 0.6 mln in Q3 2009. For the year, Spreadtrum reported a net loss of USD 19.3 mln, compared to a net loss of USD 78.7 mln in 2008.
Unit shipments of baseband and RF semiconductors increased 289% YoY and dropped 5% QoQ in Q4 2009.
The company estimates Q1 2010 revenue will be in the range of USD 40 mln to USD 43 mln.
