Rumor: China Mobile 4th Round TD Bids to Hit RMB 100 Bln

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) will reportedly begin a fourth round of TD-SCDMA procurement tenders, after bidding for GSM network and core network equipment contracts has been completed. China Mobile invested RMB 15 bln, RMB 30 bln and RMB 58 bln in the last three rounds, respectively. Based on previous figures, the fourth round of procurement could reach nearly RMB 100 bln. Total network coverage reached 238 cities after the third round, and is expected to reach 330 cities after fourth-round deployment is finished.

The fourth round aims to improve network performance as well as user experience. The fourth round will set requirements to support new network functions, such as introducing A+F frequency equipment, expanding network capacity, and deployment for special environments.
