CWWCS Seeks to Resume Talks with Google

TechWeb, 3/11/10

According to Hong Kong media reports, the China Written Works Copyright Society (CWWCS) and Google have both changed their stances since Google pulled out of the fourth round of copyright talks with the group. The CWWCS has reportedly obtained key evidence for leverage in the negotiations, and is actively seeking additional materials as it seeks an opportunity to restart talks. CWWCS will reportedly consider the possibility of bringing the National Copyright Administration of China into the talks.

On the eve before the 'Two Sessions' held in Beijing last week, CWWCS received from Google a complete list of works whose copyright the American internet company had infringed. According to initial figures, Google's digital library contains more than 210,000 Chinese works. An industry source said that with this figure in hand, the CWWCS would be at an advantage in any potential copyright case, and could demand that talks resume at any time.
