Rumor: Google China Withdrawal Plan in Motion

TechWeb, 3/16/10

A source close to Google has said that the company already put its China withdrawal plans into motion three days ago, and has begun discussing the possibility of layoffs with a number of its employees. A Google employee who wished to remain anonymous said the company had already paid them a call so that they could "mentally prepare" themselves for possible layoffs, which are to fall most heavily on sales and marketing staff, while R&D departments are to remain relatively unscathed.

However, Google China has not yet confirmed the rumors.
