Rumor: Only 20% of China Unicom 3G Subs Active

A source within one of China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) southern subsidiaries recently reported that 40% of 3G subscribers recruited by China Unicom branch employees discontinue their service, and that no more than 20% of 3G subscribers are active users. Additionally, a significant number of 3G numbers are reportedly being used on 2G terminals.
