Rumor: Google China Senior Executives Join Tencent

DoNews, 4/12/10

Two senior Google China executives, Zhu Huican and Wang Jin, have reportedly joined Chinese internet company Tencent (0700.HK). Both were deputy directors at Google's China Research Institute.

After joining Google in 2000, Zhu Huican developed Google Image Search in his "20-percent time" (which allows Google employees to spend 20% of their efforts on a self-developed project), and helped develop Google's PageRank indexing system, as well as Chinese, Japanese and Korean language search. After joining Google's China Research Institute, Zhu was responsible for Google China's core infrastructure platform team. Wang Jin joined Google in June 2000, and manages Google China's Shanghai R&D center, where he is responsible for Google's advertising system in China.

Editor's Note: Wang Jin has confirmed his resignation from Google but would not verify whether he is joining Tencent. Tencent also would not confirm the rumor.
