Great Wall Computer Unveils Tablet PCs

Chinese computer manufacturer Great Wall Computer (000066.SZ) held a new product launch ceremony in Beijing yesterday, unveiling its Gpad and Gbook lines of tablet computers.

President Zhou Gengshen said Great Wall has formed a comprehensive partnership with Chinese consumer electronics and home appliance retailer Gome (0493.HK), and plans to utilize multiple channels to bring the tablets to market, including TV shopping and online malls, as well as traditional media and industry channels, to achieve full market coverage.

According to a tablet project manager, Great Wall's Gpad and Gbook come equipped with a number of applications from domestic content providers.

Editor's Note: The Beijing Times has reported that the Gpad will retail for RMB 1,999, while the Gbook's price remains unknown. The Gpad features a 7-inch display, Windows CE and an Intel x86 processor, while the Gbook features an 11-inch display, Windows 7 and an ARM processor. Great Wall will also release an Android OS tablet.
