Rumor: News Corporation to Partner on CMMB

According to an industry source, China representatives of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation are actively engaging in talks with national-level CMMB mobile TV operator China Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) regarding new media partnerships. The two companies have achieved consensus on a number of issues, and hope to attempt a strong partnership within the areas permitted by national policy.
The source said that News Corporation and CBC began partnership discussions in 2009, and have already reached fundamental consensus on several issues, but declined to reveal any specific details, as the specifics are still under discussion.
An individual close to the partnership discussions at CBC said that any partnership between the two companies would "begin initially with trial partnerships on certain categories of media content, such as breaking news and entertainment." The source said that details are still being worked out, but that if the companies should form a partnership, viewers would be able to get the latest updates from around the world through their CMMB terminals.
