Group Buy Directory: 10 Firms Hold 80% of Market

Gong Guangyong, founder of Chinese group buying directory portal 57tuan.com, has revealed that 57tuan now lists over 100 domestic group buying websites. Gong said dozens of websites must be pruned from the directory each week, primarily because these sites cannot guarantee new deals frequently enough. According to Gong's statistics, over 30% of group buying sites are unable to offer "a deal a day" (not including weekends and holidays).
Gong said that the top five sites receive over 60% of market sales and the top ten account for more than 80%.
According to media reports, group buying site 1288.me has already come under police investigation for continually failing to deliver goods, and is preparing to sell its domain name and shut down.
