Online Author to Sue Shanda's Qidian

Tencent Tech, 7/12/10

Wang Hui, an online author who writes under the pseudonym "Innocent," has announced intent to sue Shanda Interactive's (Nasdaq: SNDA) online literature site Qidian for unfair competition.

According to an industry source, Wang's novel "Luofu" hit the two top after its initial December 2009 release on Perfect World's (Nasdaq: PWRD) online literature site Zongheng.com. Following the book's success, Qidian released a copycat version of the novel under the same name in April 2010, and purchased the keyword "Luofu" to advertise the book on Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), causing the copycat version to be shown as the first search result.

Shanda Literature has yet to make a statement on the matter.
