CNTV Develops Video Search, to Partner with Video Sites

Tencent Tech, 7/20/10

Wang Wenbin, general manager of CCTV's national online TV station China Network TV (CNTV), has disclosed that CNTV is preparing to launch its own search engine designed especially for online video search.

CNTV's predecessor, CCTV.com, released an on-site search engine in beta in January. Prior to this, CNTV's search business operations were reportedly outsourced to online video site OpenV.

Wang also revealed that CNTV is in discussions with Tudou, Youku, Ku6 and 6rooms to freely provide licensed content, bandwidth, and other technical services in exchange for a CNTV channel on each video site's homepage (e.g. CCTV Sports, CCTV Films, etc.).
