Rumor: Tencent Develops Middleware with MTK

An anonymous source yesterday revealed that Chinese internet and wireless value-added service provider Tencent (0700.HK) has secretly signed a partnership agreement with Taiwanese wireless chipmaker MediaTek (MTK). According to the source, Tencent has already built a team of hundreds of staff that has begun secretly developing handset middleware based on MTK's platform, and development has already been completed for MTK platform versions of Tencent's mobile input method, mobile browser, and QQ mobile instant messaging software.
