Rumor: Second Round of Triple Play Trials Slated for 2011

21st Century Business Herald, 8/06/10

An industry source has reported that the second batch of "triple play" network convergence trial cities could be announced as early as the start of 2011, but cautioned that governmental, economic, and developmental factors could still affect the outcome.

A source inside State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) said that the State Council workgroup for network convergence coordination has called upon cities not currently hosting convergence trials to submit their applications for the next round of testing as soon as possible.

A source at SARFT's Science and Technology Department said that the number of cities taking part in the second round of trials would likely not exceed 12, and added that SARFT would be required to take developmental parity between different regions of China into consideration.
