Rumor: MIIT Pushing for Inter-Operator 3G Video Calling

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has reportedly been overseeing the drafting of standards to allow video calls between users on different 3G network standards. When contacted, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), and China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) all said they had received no notification of any such interoperability standards, and spokesman Wang Lijian of the MIIT's press office said he could not immediately confirm the reports.
