Lenovo: Android 3.0 Allows Third-Party UI

Caing.com, 8/12/10

Wei Wei, VP for LePhone R&D at Lenovo (0992.HK), today denied rumors that version 3.0 of the Android mobile operating system would block custom manufacturer-developed user interfaces, saying that he himself had visited Google to clarify the matter on August 7, and received clear assurances from Google that third-party user interfaces will continue to be supported.

Wei Wei revealed that Lenovo's LePhone has already sold more units than the company's last smartphone offering sold during its entire product lifespan. Sales are split nearly evenly between China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) service centers and Lenovo retail outlets.
