Tencent Denies QPhone Rumors

National Business Daily, 8/25/10

Chinese Internet and mobile & telecommunications value-added services provider Tencent (0700.HK) will reportedly launch its own brand of "QPhone" handsets by the end of 2010. The handset, which will come in three models aimed at high-end, mid-range and low-end users, will come with QQ, QZone, QQ Microblog and nearly every Tencent product pre-installed, according to industry rumors. A source within Tencent denied the rumors, revealing that Tencent has gathered over 40 representatives from more than 20 handset manufacturers but has no plans to release handsets under its own brand.
