MIIT: M2M Industry to Reach RMB 500 Bln during 2011-2015

Wen Ku, director of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) Department of Technology, said in Shanghai today that China's M2M (Internet of Things) industry is expected to reach a total value of RMB 500 bln during the period covered by the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015). He added that the M2M industry is predicted to have a total value of trillions of RMB in the latter half of the period covered by the 13th Five-Year Plan. In 2009, Wen said, China's sensor industry had a total value of nearly RMB 60 bln, with RFID chips accounting for RMB 8.5 bln and a total M2M market of RMB 1 bln. Cloud computing and M2M application services have yet to see real commercial uptake, he said.
