Sina to Lead Expansion into Hong Kong with Microblogging

According to Hong Kong media reports, Charles Chao, CEO of online media company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA), has announced that the company will be pursuing expansion in the previously overlooked market of Hong Kong with a special emphasis on its microblog product. Chao also revealed that the company is considering raising money by going public in Hong Kong.

Chao pointed out that the company already has over 600,000 microblog users registered in Hong Kong. In the near future, Sina will be increasing investment, and expanding products and services directed at the needs of Hong Kong consumers in order to increase market share in the region.

With regards to an IPO in Hong Kong, Chao stated that currently there was no definite plan, but it was one of the possibilities he was considering.
