China Extends Deadline for Online Map Licensing

Sina Tech, 11/27/10

China's State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (SBSM) has extended the deadline for online map providers to be licensed, according to English-language publication China Daily. The move will give more time to Google and Microsoft, among others, to apply for online mapping services licenses.

In an email reply to China Daily, the SBSM stated it will begin cracking down on unlicensed online mapping services next year, issuing warnings to those websites that have not been approved by March 31 and taking administrative measures against sites that remain unlicensed after July 1. The SBSM had previously set the deadline for the end of 2010.
