Foxconn to Bring Chi Mei Displays to China Market
National Business Daily, 12/09/10
Taiwanese LCD manufacturer Chimei Innolux announced yesterday that it would partner with Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn (2038.HK; 2354.TW) to bring its Chimei-branded displays to the mainland Chinese market.
The Taiwanese LCD and LED manufacturer introduced the Chimei brand with its 2006 entry into the consumer electronics market. Its subsidiary Nexgen Mediatech is responsible for the global operations of the brand, whose products mainly comprise LCD televisions and computer displays and LED lighting products.
Chimei plans to sell more than 300,000 units of its Chimei LCD displays on the Chinese mainland in 2011, and to rank among the top ten display manufacturers within the next three years.
Chimei's director of displays and illumination, Yu Minle, said that the company would compete in IT product malls like Cybermart, BuyNow, and Pacific IT, in first-tier markets including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, relying on its partnership with Foxconn to help it rapidly set up flagship-quality retail outlets. Through Foxconn's distribution channels, Chi Mei will have more than 20 provincial-level distributors in all major provinces nationwide by year's end.
After looking at the state of its channel operations in 2012, Chimei will decide whether or not to bring its Chimei-branded LCD televisions to the mainland market.
