Rumor: Blizzard Preparing China Starcraft II Launch

DoNews, 12/17/10

An industry source said today that game developer Blizzard is actively preparing for the China launch of Starcraft II, with visits to relevant governmental bodies and media outreach efforts.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Blizzard has even been making preparations for a Chinese-language press conference for the launch of the game. The company predicted at a recent bidding meeting in Shanghai that the game would launch in H1 2011.

Editor's Note: According to Sina Tech, Blizzard COO Paul Sams said Starcraft II is still waiting for regulatory approval, and Blizzard plans to hold game tournaments in mainland China. In August 2008 Chinese online game developer and operator Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) announced an agreement to license the Mainland China operating rights to Starcraft II from Blizzard (for more background, please see "Netease Licenses Starcraft II For Mainland China," MD 8/13/08 issue.
