Rumor: Former Perfect World GM Joins Changyou

Recent reports reveal that in early December, Wang Yi, former GM of Beijing-based online game developer and operator Perfect World (Nasdaq: PWRD), began serving as vice president at Changyou (Nasdaq: CYOU), a Perfect World competitor and subsidiary of Internet portal Sohu (Nasdaq: SOHU). In his new post Wang will be responsible for operations and marketing, and there is speculation that he may be heading the operations team for "The Duke of Mount Deer," a 3D MMORPG currently undergoing testing.
According to the reports, Wang began to discuss leaving Perfect World in October. Non-competition agreements signed with the company state that he is not to work for another online game company for at least 24 months after his departure, or face a fine of 24 months of salary. Currently, it appears that Changyou has agreed to pay this penalty on Wang's behalf.
Wang first joined Perfect World in 2007, where he has served as the GM of both the second and third operations divisions. He has lead operations for games such as "Zhu Xian 2," and "Fantasy Zhu Xian." Prior to his departure, he was doing preparatory work for Perfect World's biggest 2011 release, "Swordsman Online."
