Softbank Invests USD 250 Mln in PPLive

Vincent Tao, CEO of Chinese P2P streaming video platform PPLive (PPTV), has confirmed that the company has received USD 250 mln in fourth-round funding from Softbank.

Founded in 2004, PPLive offers both live streaming and video-on-demand online programming. PPTV had an installed user base exceeding 200 mln and 105 mln active monthly users as of December 2010. Average viewing time per person per day has reached over 2 hours and 30 minutes.

PPTV is powered by its proprietary video distribution technology, PPCloud, which combines edge computing and peercasting algorithms capable of supporting millions of concurrent viewers.
