BOE 8.5G TFT-LCD Plant to Begin Trial Production This Month

A source at BOE (000725.SZ) said yesterday that the Chinese TFT-LCD manufacturer's Yizhuang (Beijing) 8.5G TFT-LCD plant would begin trial production on June 28 ahead of full-scale production in Q3 of this year, mainly producing LCD panels ranging from 26 inches to 55 inches in size.
BOE president Chen Yanshun said that at full production capacity the new plant will produce up to 120,000 glass-substrate panels per month on-site for LCD panel production. Once the 8.5G production line begins operating at full capacity, Chen said, the company will provide 3 mln panels per month to BOE, 3 mln to Hong Kong-based display and TV vendor TPV Technology (0903.HK), and approximately 7 mln to other domestic manufacturers.
BOE spokesperson Zhang Yu said that Chinese consumer electronics manufacturers Haier (1169.HK), Hisense (600060.SH), Skyworth Digital Holdings (0751.HK), Konka (200016.SZ, 000016.SZ), and Changhong (600839.SH) have already signed memoranda of intent with BOE for joint product R&D efforts through which BOE will begin producing LCD televisions.
