Rumor: Taobao to Launch Open Platform for Major B2C E-commerce Firms

DoNews, 9/16/11

An industry source said today that Hangzhou-based B2C e-commerce platform Taobao Mall will launch an open platform for major B2C e-commerce firms next week, at which time the site will also unveil an all-new logo.

Taobao Mall said that it would announce a new strategy and management policies next week. One of the two major changes to Taobao Mall administrations will reportedly be the introduction of two new service plans charging vendors RMB 30,000 or 60,000 per year - as compared to current "technical service fees" of RMB 6,000 per year. The new service plans will reportedly offer vendors conditional end-of-year refunds of part or all of their technical service fees, depending on store performance, quality of service, and other metrics.
