Rumor: Beijing to Extend Real Name Beyond Microblogs

Beijing Daily, 12/19/11

Following the implementation of real name registration for Beijing-based microblog platforms, Beijing aims to expand the real name system to other services offered by each microblog operator, according to a source at the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

According to the source, Beijing's goal is to integrate each user's accounts on a single company's microblog, BBS, and other platforms under a single real name ID on the back-end, allowing operators to quickly collect and summarize users' communications history and submit it to government authorities.
