Tencent Acquires US Online Gaming News and Community Firm ZAM

Ryan Bohmann, president of California-based massively multi-player online (MMO) gaming guide, wiki, and forums provider ZAM Network has announced that his company was acquired by Chinese internet giant Tencent (0700.HK) in early February 2012 for an undisclosed amount. Tencent declined to comment.

ZAM Network operates online gaming communities for titles such as World of Warcraft (Wowhead.com), Everquest, and Final Fantasy, as well as game add-on and customization download site MMOUI.com. ZAM Network receives 400 mln monthly visits and 9 mln unique visitors.

Editor's Note: ZAM was established in 1999 as Allakhazam, offering its Everquest game guide, wiki and forum. In 2002, it launched new sites MMOUI and FFXI Allakhazam. In 2005, the company was acquired by IGE and renamed ZAM Network. In 2007, ZAM acquired Wowhead, which subsequently grew to be the world’s largest World of Warcraft community. ZAM is headquartered in Los Angeles and also has an office in Palo Alto, California.
