China Loses 164 Group Buy Sites in February

The total number of group buy sites in China fell by 164 in February compared to January to reach 3,626, according to group buy directory site Tuan800, nearly half as many as the 5,000-6,000 when the industry was at its height.

The number of purchases made in February fell 5% MoM, but transaction volume rose 8.1% MoM and 225% YoY to RMB 1.46 bln, the second highest recorded month after RMB 1.58 bln in sales in December 2011. Nearly 200 sites, however, have shifted from offering local services to selling only material goods.
