Taobao Launches Browser Game Co-Operation Platform

Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao launched a new browser gaming platform, wan.taobao.com, today. The platform already features several browser games, including Shenxian Dao, Huoying Shijie, and Zhengzhan Sifang.

Taobao says that the new "browser games recommendation channel" is a space that it provides for browser game operators. Users will be able to log in using their existing Taobao accounts. Taobao stressed that the new space is merely a joint-operation platform, and that all game data and any service or content fees would be stored and processed on the game operator's side, independent of Taobao.

Taobao also launched a new game transaction platform, game.taobao.com, for MMORPG-related services including in-game currency purchases, in-game props, and character grinding services.

Both of the new platforms are marked as "Beta."
