Sina Launches Cloud Service for Individual Users

TechWeb, 6/21/12

Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) launched closed beta testing of its "Yunshangdian" (literally, "Cloud Store") service on the evening of June 20 at the domain name www.yunshangdian.com. The first personal cloud service to be offered by the site is the WordPress blog platform, which subscribers may purchase for RMB 1 per month.

"Personal cloud services" aim to help individual users develop blogs, online stores, or use project management tools. Users of Sina's Yunshangdian can use the tools without having to purchase their own domain names, and with no need for knowledge of PHP, MySQL, or other web technologies.

With each purchase of a Yunshangdian application, users will receive a free personalized subdomain in the form of "[subdomain].1kapp.com" where they will be able to access their application.
