Alibaba Group Appoints Chief Data Officer

Sina Tech, 7/10/12

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group today announced it will establish a new Chief Data Officer position to oversee the company's "data sharing platform" strategy. Jonathan Lu, CEO of B2B e-commerce firm Alibaba.com, has been appointed to the post and will report directly to Alibaba Group CEO Jack Ma.

Alibaba Group said that the company has already reached an internal consensus to transform into a data-driven firm, integrating the data divisions of Alipay, Taobao, AliBank, and Alibaba.com into a single shared platform. At the heart of the new strategy is a focus on sharing data mining, analysis, and usage throughout the company.
