Rumor: China Mobile to Launch Custom WP8 Handsets

A source at China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) revealed recently that the operator is about to kick off a custom Windows Phone 8 handset plan. China Mobile will partner with one of the initial Windows Phone 8 handset manufacturers - the list currently includes Nokia, Samsung, HTC, and Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer Huawei - to launch two operator-customized Windows Phone 8 handsets in 2013. The source speculated that China Mobile could partner with Nokia and Huawei for the handsets. China Mobile's Windows Phone 8 handsets will skip support for the TD-SCDMA standard and move directly to TD-LTE.
