Rumor: Acer Seeks Mainland Operator Support for Handsets

Tencent Tech, 7/19/12

Tencent Tech has received an exclusive report from an industry source that J.T. Wang, CEO of Taiwanese computer manufacturer Acer (2353.TW), paid low-key visits to Mainland telecom operators last week in the hopes of securing channel support for several upcoming Acer handsets. The operators were reportedly lukewarm in response, but no further details are available at this time. If Acer handset sales fail to reach a certain volume over the next half year, and Acer's brand development remains stagnant, the company's mobile handset division could see leadership changes.
