SARFT, Cable TV Operators to Develop NGB Cloud App Platform

CCTime, 7/24/12

Sheng Zhifan, head of the technology and standards division of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television's (SARFT) Department of Science and Technology, recently disclosed that China's cable TV operators and TV stations plan to develop a next-generation broadcasting (NGB) cloud platform open tot third-party app developers. The platform will be intended to attract upstream and downstream players from the industry chain and function as a "TV store," similar to a mobile app store.

The platform will have three main components: a business division managing content processing and business operations; a technical division, responsible for programming and transcoding services infrastructure and handling content storage and distribution; and an administrative division to oversee system management and security.
