Hisense to Build Production Base in South Africa

Southern Daily, 8/02/12

Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Hisense (600060.SH) recently acquired an industrial park in South Africa, which will be developed into a consumer electronics production base for the southern Africa region. The facility is 40 kilometers from Cape Town, South Africa's major electronics manufacturing hub. Hisense will initially invest ZAR 250 mln (approximately USD 30.25 mln) in the production facility, which will focus on manufacturing environmentally-friendly refrigerators, smart HD 3D TV sets, and other high-end environmentally-conscious products using Hisense's own brands. Once completed, the facility is expected to have annual production capacity of 400,000 smart TVs and 400,000 refrigerators. Products that do not meet South African standards will be sold in one of more than 30 other Sub-Saharan African nations.
