China Mobile Expands TD-LTE Trial to 13 Cities

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) recently issued plans to its provincial subsidiaries laying out requirements for expanded TD-LTE trial coverage. In addition to trials in the ten cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Qingdao, Tianjin, and Shenyang, China Mobile will add TD-LTE trials in Ningbo, Chengdu, and Fuzhou. The Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou trials will use the F-frequency band to provide continuous outdoor coverage for more than 90% of key urban areas, while trials in other cities will use the D-frequency band for data service coverage in heavily trafficked key urban areas. Coverage in the Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Xiamen, Qingdao, and Shenyang trials will expand to roughly 30% to 50% of key urban areas, while trials in Ningbo, Chengdu, and Fuzhou will offer coverage to roughly 20% to 30% of key urban areas.
