Rumor: China Unicom, China Telecom May Sever Xiaomi Ties

Tom, 8/16/12

A source at China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) revealed recently that the operator has terminated its partnership with Beijing-based Android smartphone developer Xiaomi owing to persistently high handset return rates, and will not partner with Xiaomi on the company's new Mi2 second-generation handset. A source at China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) says that the operator may also terminate its partnership with Xiaomi over high return rates and poor after-sales service. Common issues with the Xiaomi Mi1 include overheating, freezing, frequent rebooting, and poor reception.
