Rumor: China Telecom to Launch New QQ Smartphones

A source from China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) revealed today that China Telecom will soon release a new series of QQ smartphones with Tencent (0700.HK) in late August. China Telecom and 9 different terminal manufacturers, including Huawei, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Hisense (600060.SH), Haier, Gionee, Shenzhen EPHONE Communication Technology, Lantian, Hissage, and Kingsun, will release 10 different models.

Last year. China Telecom and Tencent released the first generation of QQ smartphones, which came pre-installed with apps from both companies. To date six handset vendors have released their own versions of QQ smartphone, selling a total of more than 200 mln units.
