ZTE Expects 2012 Smartphone Shipments to Reach 40 Mln

Tencent Tech, 8/28/12

Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) today disclosed that it expects to ship 40 mln smartphones in 2012, compared to 15 mln in 2011. Tablet shipments are expected to reach approximately 1 mln, more than double last year's shipments. ZTE senior VP Zhang Renjun said that smartphones sales have been strong in mature markets such as Japan, the United States, Europe, and Australia, as well as some emerging markets.

According to IDC, ZTE was the only Chinese firm to enter the top five global smartphone vendors in Q2 2012, with shipments up 300% YoY to reach 8 mln units, driven primarily by sales of low-end entry phones in mainland China as well as growth in international sales, particularly in the United States.
