Gionee, Taobao Partner on Shopping Phones

Shenzhen-based handset supplier Gionee and Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao's wireless department have partnered to launch Gionee's new "Moonlight" (Yueguang) smartphone. The handset comes preinstalled with Taobao's "Taobao Smart" solution. The Moonlight comes with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of ROM, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED-plus screen, and runs an Android 4.0 operating system.

Taobao Smart, a comprehensive mobile handset shopping solution developed by Taobao, integrates systems data from multiple shopping apps to provide a better user experience. Moonlight handset users can place customized Taobao apps and even a Taobao search bar directly onto their handset desktops. The Taobao search bar supports voice search, text search, and QR code search.

Gionee will release the handset on October 20 through Taobao and Alibaba Group's B2C e-commerce site TMall.
