Rumor: Gome.com.cn to Launch Open Platform

Chinese home appliance and consumer electronics retailer Gome's (0493.HK) online mall, Gome.com.cn, has reportedly been quietly building an open platform that may begin operations in Q4 2012. According to an industry insider, the platform will target the low-price market and attract merchants with minimal security deposit requirements. Though Gome has yet to make any public announcement of the service, the backend has been completed and begins online testing this month, with merchants already having been informed of fee standards for certain product categories. "Security deposits for major household appliances may be as low as RMB 20,000," said the source, "while costs for other product categories will not be high."
