LeTV Launches New Media Player

Chinese online video site LeTV (300104.SZ) announced the launch of version 2.0 of its LeTV media player today. The new player adds an online "extension store," intelligent acceleration, and other new features.

The "LeTV Extension Store" comes with two applications: "LeTV Index" and "Speed Test." LeTV Index gives viewers up-to-date information on the ten most popular programs among LeTV's PC, TV, and mobile viewers, while "Speed Test" tests users' internet connections and intelligently recommends servers based on viewers' network environment in order to improve overall transmission speeds. A LeTV engineer said that the company had applied for a patent on the app.

In addition to intelligent acceleration, version 2.0 of the LeTV Player adds support for a number of file formats, including FLV and SWF (Flash) video, JPEG and PNG images, text, and binary files. LeTV has also applied for patents on these technologies.
