ZTE Expects to Ship 50 Mln Smartphones in 2013

He Shiyou, an Executive Director at Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), has revealed that the company expects to ship 50 mln smartphones in 2013. Mr. He expects ZTE's 2012 smartphone shipments to be around 35 mln units.

According to He, ZTE forecasts large growth in shipments to the Chinese, US, European, and Japanese markets in 2013, as well as reasonable growth in the Asia-Pacific and Latin American markets.

According to statistics from the International Data Corporation (IDC), ZTE shipped 7.5 mln smartphone handsets in Q3 2013, bringing the company's percentage of global smartphone shipments to 4.2%, up from 3.3% in Q3 2011. The company is now the fourth largest global supplier of smartphones, by shipments.
