Beijing Targets Navigation and LBS Industry Revenue of RMB 50 Bln in 2015

At a November 20 press conference announcing development plans for China's sui generis Beidou satellite navigation and positioning system, Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology spokeswoman Jiang Guiping said that the Beijing municipal government is targeting annual revenues of RMB 50 bln for the local navigation and positioning service industry by 2015, as well as more than 100 industry standard-setting applications and the fostering and development of at least one enterprise with annual revenues of RMB 5 bln or more.
After the Beidou global positioning system - for which China owns all IPR - officially begins commercial operations at the end of 2012, Jiang said, full Beidou positioning and navigation service coverage for all of Beijing's 12,000 taxicabs and 1,141 geohazard monitoring stations will follow in 2013. Existing single-mode GPS systems will be replaced by dual-mode Beidou/GPS systems.
Satellite navigation and positioning product providers Beijing UniStrong Science & Technology (002383.SZ) and Beijing BDStar Navigation (002151.SZ) and map suppliers NavInfo (002405.SZ) and SuperMap (300036.SZ), all of whom took part in Beidou trials, were also present at the press event.
