Hisense Launches RMB 599 Smart TV STB

Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Hisense (600060.SH) recently launched a smart TV set-top box (STB) priced at RMB 599. Traditional TVs with HDMI ports can be plugged into the new STB and converted into smart TVs with functional operating systems. The new STB can also serve as a high definition media player and wireless router. Hisense stated that the new STB is aimed at customers who want to convert their older Hisense brand TVs into smart TVs, though testing shows that the smart TV STB is compatible with all television brands.

Currently, 535 mln Chinese households have color TVs, 31% of which are flat screen TVs with HDMI ports.
